» KKU and SMBC Bangkok Branch Host the 2026 Scholarship Award Ceremony, Empowering Thai Youth and Advancing Educational Excellence (167 Views)

KHON KAEN UNIVERSITY — On July 13, 2026, the International Affairs Division of Khon Kaen University (KKU) organized the SMBC Bangkok Branch Scholarship Award Ceremony 2026 at the Kalapruk 7 Meeting Room, Sirikunakorn Building. The prestigious event was honored by the presence of Mr. Naoyuki Ichikawa, Managing Director of SMBC Bangkok Branch, alongside his executive delegation, and Asst. Prof. Acharawan Topark-Ngarm, Assistant to the President for International Affairs at KKU, who jointly presided over the ceremony. Deans, faculty members, and student recipients also attended the event.

SMBC Bangkok Branch has maintained an enduring partnership with Khon Kaen University since 1996, providing financial aid to 284 outstanding undergraduate students to date. The scholarship specifically targets exceptional students majoring in Japanese Language and Culture, Law, Economics, or Business who demonstrate academic excellence and active community involvement. This year, six highly qualified students were selected to receive these distinguished awards. The 2026 SMBC Scholarship recipients are as follows:

  • Faculty of Education:
    • Miss Wasana Palaha
    • Mr. Narongsak Wohanluek
  • Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences:
    • Miss Phatcha Sakura
    • Miss Sukanya Phanchai
    • Miss Phasuree Khemchatturat

During the ceremony, Asst. Prof. Acharawan Topark-Ngarm expressed KKU's profound gratitude for SMBC’s unwavering commitment to Thai higher education. She highlighted that this financial assistance not only alleviates financial burdens but also empowers students to unleash their full potential and graduate as accomplished individuals ready to contribute meaningfully to society. Furthermore, she extended appreciation to SMBC for offering valuable internship opportunities that provide KKU students with real-world professional experiences.

Representing the scholarship recipients, Mr. Phuriphat Phanada, a student from the Faculty of Economics, expressed his heartfelt gratitude: “This scholarship is immensely valuable to me. It alleviates my financial burden related to educational expenses, allowing me to fully dedicate my energy to my academic pursuits. This has greatly improved my quality of life.  My ultimate dream is to help others and give back to society, just as SMBC has generously given me this life-changing opportunity today. I am deeply committed to studying hard and dedicating myself to becoming a valuable asset to both myself and our nation in the future.”

Following the formal ceremony, the SMBC delegation toured the campus, visiting the ASEAN Teacher Education Center and the Japanese language programs at the Faculty of Education and the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. This visit marks another milestone in strengthening the long-standing and sustainable partnership between the two institutions.
