On October 1, 2026, Khon Kaen University (KKU) welcomed a delegation of researchers from the University of Southern Denmark (SDU), Denmark, and the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay), India, during their visit to KKU under the Danish–Thai–Indian Circular Bioeconomy Network. The visit provided an opportunity to exchange knowledge, explore avenues for research collaboration, and further strengthen research networks among Thailand, Denmark, and India. The delegation comprised researchers with expertise in Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), Circular Economy, Sustainability, Waste-to-Energy, Waste Valorization, and Life Cycle Engineering.
The KKU delegation was led by Prof. Pewpan Maleewong, M.D., Vice President for Research and Innovation, together with Assoc. Prof. Chawis Ketkaew, Assistant to the President for International Affairs, and Asst. Prof. Kwankate Kanistanon, Acting Director of the International Affairs Division, who welcomed the visiting researchers and joined the discussion at Khon Kaen University.
The discussion focused on advancing collaboration in Circular Bioeconomy and Waste-to-Energy, particularly through the application of scientific and technological knowledge and sustainability assessment to waste management and resource valorization. The meeting also highlighted collaboration among universities, industry, and local communities. A key concept presented during the discussion was the “KKU Campus Living Lab for Waste-to-Energy,” which envisions KKU as a living laboratory for studying and developing sustainable waste and energy management approaches. The proposed framework ranges from mapping waste streams, current treatment systems, and energy needs to testing and evaluating technological options in terms of technical feasibility, environmental performance, and economic viability, with the aim of developing practical joint research initiatives. In addition, the meeting explored opportunities to expand institutional collaboration, including the potential establishment of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), faculty, researcher, and student exchanges, as well as opportunities to secure international research funding and develop joint research proposals. These initiatives are expected to further strengthen sustainable academic and research networks among KKU, SDU, and partner institutions in India. Such directions are also aligned with the network’s objectives of promoting knowledge exchange, network building, and preparations for future joint funding opportunities.
