» Australian Ambassador to the Kingdom of Thailand visits KKU (830 Views)

On March,31 2022 at Sarasin meeting room, 2nd floor, Sirikunakorn building,H.E. Mr. Allan McKinnon, Australian Ambassador to the Kingdom of Thailand and a delegation from the Australian embassy, Thailand, met with the administrators of Khon Kaen University led by Assoc. Prof. Charnchai Panthongviriyakul, President of Khon Kaen University, who delivered a welcome speech, along with Assoc. Prof. Nawarat Wara-Aswapati Charoen, Vice President for International Affairs, and the deans and representatives from Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Dentistry, Faculty of Agriculture, Faculty of Associated Medical Sciences, Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Faculty of Business Administration and Accountancy, College of Local Administration, International College, Faculty of Interdisciplinary Studies, also the director of International Affairs Division who joined in the welcoming. This was his excellency’s first visit, and during the meeting, discussions were held on cooperation in education, research, student and staff exchange, and other collaborations in the future. 

Assoc. Prof. Charnchai Panthongviriyakul, President of Khon Kaen University said “Khon Kaen University is delighted to support the collaborations with the Australian Embassy and educational institutions in Australia. Khon Kaen University has a number of projects and activities in collaboration with Australian educational institutions, especially to build and develop academic competence under the Endeavour Leadership Program, both in terms of students, staff and lectures exchange, as well as in research. Six alumni have received the Alumni Endeavour Award. Currently, there is academic cooperation by active MoUs with more than 13 leading universities in Australia, including more than 40 students participating in exchange programs to learn and exchange Thai culture. Moreover, there were 88 KKU academic staff who graduated from prestigious universities in Australia. The mentioned activities demonstrate the success of cooperation in various fields.”

“Additionally, it is my pleasure to inform His Excellency that our researchers at the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Associated Medical Sciences have recently been awarded grants from the National Health and Medical Research Council NHMRC, the Australian Government, under the E-ASIA Joint Research Program. As KKU is renowned for its research in the fields of tropical diseases and Cholangiocarcinoma, particularly Liver Fluke, this joint research is conducted with the top universities in Australia, such as the Australian National University, the University of Queensland, Curtin University, The Queensland Institute of Medical Research, Griffith University and La Trobe University.”

H.E. Mr. Allan McKinnon, Australian Ambassador to the Kingdom of Thailand said “I and the delegation from the Embassy are delighted and honored to have the opportunity to visit Khon Kaen University. This is my first visit. Thank you to all the Khon Kaen University administrators and Indonesian students studying in KKU for giving us a warm welcome.”

H.E. Mr. Allan McKinnon, Australian Ambassador to Thailand added  that Education is the cornerstone of human resource development. Therefore, education is now more open to the international level (international education) to support changes in the global community. Australia is one of the countries with a reputation for education in a variety of fields, with 6 universities that have been ranked in the Top world University rankings. If both universities can develop strategies for international engagement, it would lead to a positive effect in increasing the number of exchange students, teaching and research, as well as creating an international atmosphere. Today is a great opportunity for both universities to develop cooperation in various fields in the future.
