International Affairs Division, Office of the President, Khon Kaen University (IAD,KKU) held an off-site English Camp for KKU Supporting Staff Project during a one-day trip to Kalasin province. The objective was to develop English proficiency of KKU staff and build confidence for naturally using English in daily life, as well as to create an international atmosphere within KKU. All participants passed a 30-hour online English training with Khon Kaen University Language Institute (KKULI) and practiced English conversation with foreigners before attending the camp.
On August 16, 2022, at 08.30-18.00 hrs. International Affairs Division, Office of the President, Khon Kaen University (IAD, KKU) held an off-site activity workshop- an English Camp for KKU Supporting staff (one-day trip) at Kalasin. This activity was to practice conversation between international students, international lecturers, and staff. The participants were 30 KKU staff working under the Office of the President building, IAD staff, 10 organizers, and 10 international students from the Netherlands, Indonesia, Germany, South Africa, South Korea, Japan, Vietnam, and China who trained as buddies.
The first station of the English Camp was Wat Phuttha Nimit Phu Khao visit at Sahatsakhan district, Kalasin. The activity was "Who is my buddy?". Staff participants randomly drew lots with clues about who their buddy was, then asking the international participants in English until they found their buddy. After that, they must take the buddy and tour around the temple, explaining the history and important information about the temple in English.
The second station is the International Eco village "Prampredee foundation for Youth and Environment" Kalasin where word guessing activities were held, and learn about Do’s and Don'ts in various countries, as a cultural exchange of each nation.
After that, a conclusion session was held of the results of the activities. The participants said unanimously that this was a great, fun and impressive activity. Everyone had a chance to communicate in English through the activities, as well as an opportunity to learn about the lifestyle and culture of other countries. It opened up new experiences. “I hope there will be more activities like these” said Mrs. Wilawan Ungsunantawiwat, Acting Director of the International Affairs Division.
Ms. Stefanie Penz, a German student from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, said, “I felt happy to attend this activity, and it was such a fun activity, including learning Thai culture and cultures from other countries, and inviting staff and international students to join.
At the end of the activities, Mrs. Wilawan Ungsunantawiwat, Acting Director of International Affairs Division, delivered a thank you speech to participants for joining the English Camp-One day trip.
In this regard, the English Camp one-day trip is a continuation of the English Camp for KKU Supporting Staff, which encourages staff to have the opportunity to use English in actual situations, and it has been used continuously. Moreover, IAD KKU will organize IAD Corner to provide opportunities for staff to improve their English skills and increase staff proficiency sustainably.
