On November 4, 2022, at Kalapruek meeting room 7, 2nd floor, Sirikunakorn building, at 11.00 hrs. KKU administrators led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nawarat Wara-Aswapati, Vice President for International Affairs, and Prof. Dr.Pewpan Maleewong, Assistant to the President for Research and Graduate Studies, together with Prof. Dr. Wongsa Laohasiriwong, dean of the Faculty of Public Health, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pensri Jaroenwanit, dean of the Faculty of Business Administration and Accountancy, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kiatichai Faksri, Dean of Graduate School, Asst.Prof.Dr. Attawut Chaibunruang, Assistant Dean for Special Affairs, Corporate Communication and International Relations, Faculty of Associated Medical Sciences, Dr. Jutarop Phetcharaburanin, Assistant to the Dean for Research and International Relations Affairs, Faculty of Medicine, Asst.Prof.Dr. Sukhum Ruangchai, Acting Assistant Dean for International Affairs and Communication Affairs, Faculty of Sciences, and Mrs. Wilawan Ungsunantawiwat, Acting Director of the International Affairs Division, joined a meeting to discuss with the delegation from University of York, United Kingdom led by Prof.Matthias Ruth, Vice President for research. The objective of the meeting was to discuss cooperation in academic and research exchange and student and staff exchange, including expanding collaboration through faculties and organizations at KhonKaen University.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nawarat Wara-Aswapati, Vice President for International Affairs, revealed that Khon Kaen University (KKU) is pleased to develop an academic and research collaboration with the University of York, United Kingdom which is recognized as a prestigious Russell Group of research-led UK universities member. York is among the youngest universities to rank within the THE World University Rankings' top 150. In addition, KKU has the vision to be a "World-class Research and Development University" and lead the University to be an internationalization through building research networks with world-class universities.
The Faculty of Sciences, Khon Kaen University has a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the University of York since 2020. Moreover, there were 42 faculty staff who received the Newton Fund award during the year 2017-2022. Also, 82 alumni graduated from prestigious UK universities. Therefore, today was an excellent opportunity to expand the academic and research collaborations and knowledge exchange into developing our community together.
Professor Matthias Ruth, Vice President for Research, said, "On behalf of the University of York, I am delighted to develop academic collaborations with KKU. University of York is the Young University in the UK, ranked as Top 10 in the world by Times Higher Education (THE). York has several strategies, especially its international research strategy. We are focusing on building partnerships in various fields with universities worldwide. In addition, the University has departments and staff ready to support research techniques and training to produce quality graduates, develop research to solve problems and share benefits with the community and global citizens.
In addition, the representative of York visited KKU faculties and departments as follows: 1. Network Center for Animal Breeding and Omics Research, the Faculty of Agriculture 2. Centre for Research and Development of Medical Diagnostic Laboratories, the Faculty of Associated Medical Sciences 3. the Faculty of Humanities & Social Sciences 4. Mekong Institute: MI and 5. the Faculty of Sciences.
