On February 24, 2023, Khon Kaen University, led by Asst. Prof. Acharawan Topark-Ngarm, Assistant to the President for International Affairs, along with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kiatichai Faksri, Dean of Graduate School, Prof. Dr. Wongsa Laohasiriwong, Dean of Faculty of Public Health, Asst. Prof. Chitsutha Soomlek, Associate Dean for Research and Innovation, College of Computing, and Dr. Siriporn Tola, a professor from the Faculty of Agriculture, discussed academic collaboration with universities in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, including Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY), Universitas Jenderal Achmad Yani Yogyakarta (UNJAYA), and Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY). In this regard, the administrators were the Rector, Vice Rector, Dean, Vice Dean, Director, and Head of Department from the three universities warmly welcomed the representatives from Khon Kaen University and had a meeting for collaborative negotiation. 

In this meeting, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kiatichai Faksri, Dean of Graduate School, was a representative of Khon Kaen University, presented the courses preserved for international students and the opportunity to set up the courses with the three universities. In addition, there was a discussion on student, teaching staff, research mobility, and academic arrangement by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) at both faculty and university levels, along with strengthening the connection between KKU and the three universities, having sustainable collaboration and becoming world-class universities.

Another highlighted event was the lecture by Prof. Dr. Wongsa Laohasiriwong, Dean of the Faculty of Public Health, who honored her to be a speaker on the Thai Community and Culture (Pre and Post COVID-19). The mentioned event was of interest to many students and personnel at Universitas Jenderal Achmad Yani Yogyakarta (UNJAYA).
