On July 28, 2023, Mr. Surapon Petch-vra, Vice Chairman of the University Council and Assoc. Prof. Charnchai Panthongviriyakul, President of Khon Kaen University, led the council members, administrators, and deans to visit Yunnan University, the People's Republic of China, to discuss further cooperation, enhance academic activity and research, and develop the innovation between the two institutions.

Khon Kaen University (KKU) and Yunnan University (YNU) have established good relationships for a long time. Since 2006, both began to mutually perform international affairs, e.g., lecturer and student exchange. On this occasion, the administrators from both universities agreed to extend the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). They discussed future collaboration in fostering academic knowledge and innovation for the community, creating a curriculum capable of producing graduates who meet global labor market needs, and exchanging students and lecturers. In terms of research, KKU is interested in the perennial rice variety, a result of research conducted by YNU researchers, which is long-living and capable of re-growing in any season without reseeding. In addition, the rice variety was selected for national rice production in Yunnan Province this year.

Yunnan University (YNU) is one of China's largest and most famous universities. YNU's main campus is located in Kunming, the capital city of Yunnan Province. It is the only university within the province that has been promoted to "National Key University.”
The university is full of experts in specialized fields. It is ranked one of China's top universities under “211” projects and the "Double First-class" project launched by the Chinese government to support globally selected universities. The university comprises 26 schools/faculties, nine research institutes, general education teaching departments, affiliated hospitals, and a graduate school. Moreover, there are 16,682 full-time undergraduate students and 13,537 full-time graduate students.
