» KKU holds the Cultural Trip 2024 for international students and Thai Students to enhance multi- cultural learning  (856 Views)

The International Affairs Division, Khon Kaen University (IAD, KKU) organized a two-day camp from 28 –29 June 2024 (Cultural Trip 2024) with overnight stay in the rural village of Non-Nuri, Sahatsakan district in Kalasin province, for International students and Thai students of Khon Kaen University both undergraduate and graduate.

The International Affairs Division arranged various activities for the students to learn about traditional Thai culture in Northeast of Thailand (Isan) and further strengthen their friendship among one another. A total of 45 international students from 8 countries: Cambodia, China, Indonesia, Myanmar and USA participated in the program.

The day began with a visit to Wat Putthawat (Puttha Phu Sing), Sahatsakhan District,Kalasin Province which is a center for spreading Buddhism. Eco-Cultural Learning Center and the Community Cultural Promotion Center and is a place to relax the mind and see the nature. The students marveled at the awe-inspiring architecture, intricate craftsmanship, and serene atmosphere of this revered Buddhist temple.

In the afternoon, IAD organized activities to enhance Thai culture under the theme "Local culture: Local Virtuous Community" at Non-Biri sub-district,Sahatsakan District, Kalasin Province which was aimed at opening a chance for international students and Thai Student to participate in the multi-cultural exchanges their knowledge of community lifestyle through 2 work-shops and demonstrations of mat weaving and Grilled Sticky Rice with egg (Kao-Jee) with local equipment.
In additionally, IAD organize an Isan-style dinner (Pa-leng) with Bai Sri Su Khwan Ceremony that is a common Hinduism ceremony in the northern and northeastern (Isan) regions, derived and influenced from Lao culture. It is a ceremony to call the spirit back to oneself, to have the spirit as a guardian of life, to strengthen the mind, to ensure safety, and to bring good fortune.

On 29 June 2024, students and staff join on the Sahatsakhan Dino Road, also known as the Merit-Making Street, to give alms with the locals and tourists.
The activities made a great impression on the students and their peers and were very helpful in opening up a variety of cultural experiences. The activities also were a good opportunity to exchange views on life and study and build good friendships with each other. At the end, the students thanked the International Affairs Division, KKU, and the organizers for arranging all the enjoyable and useful activities and expressed the hope that another Cultural Trip would be organized soon.
