International Affairs, Khon Kaen University, organized a training program titled "Capacity Building for English Medium Instruction in Higher Education: Focus on Active Learning (EMI)" to enhance teaching skills for academic staff. This capacity-building initiative supports the professional development of university lecturers and staff from various faculties and departments assigned to teach English, international, or regular courses. Participants gained valuable insights into teaching techniques using English as a medium of instruction from experts in teacher development and pedagogy from The Queensland Institute, Australia, including Prof. Philippa Coleman and Prof. Fiona Weibusch, Co-Founder and Director of The Queensland Institutes, a leading institution known for its expertise in English language teaching and modern instructional techniques. Over 30 lecturers from Khon Kaen University participated in the training.

The training was divided into two main phases. The first phase, held on August 19, 2024, was conducted online and focused on imparting knowledge about EMI (English as a Medium of Instruction) and fostering connections among academic staff. The second phase, held on August 26-27, 2024, was a workshop that emphasized hands-on practice, allowing lecturers to engage in real teaching scenarios and exchange teaching experiences and techniques that can be applied in actual classrooms.

The training content covered effective teaching techniques, the integration of Active Learning in classrooms to stimulate student engagement, and the design of interactive activities that focus on learner-centered education. The program received positive feedback from participating lecturers, who appreciated the comprehensive and practical content, as well as Prof. Coleman's valuable advice that could be readily applied in their teaching. This initiative is another step towards enhancing the teaching capabilities of university lecturers, making them more equipped and up-to-date with current educational practices.

This event marks a significant step in elevating the standards of English-medium content delivery at the university and preparing lecturers to adopt modern teaching techniques to improve student learning outcomes.
