On November 21, 2024, at the Reception Room, 6th floor of Sirikunakorn Building, Khon Kaen University (KKU). Assoc. Prof. Dr. Chanchai Panthongviriyakul, President of KKU, with Asst. Prof. Dr. Atcharawan Topark-Ngarm, Assistant to the President for International Affairs, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Cholathip Pongsakul, Assistant to the President for Strategic and Key Project Monitoring, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sirirat Anuttaragulchai, Associate Dean for Research and Innovation, discussed significantly with Ms. Esther Sun, Trade and Investment Commissioner for Thailand, and Ms. Busarin Sinthunavarat, Senior Business Development Manager from Austrade. The discussion focused on the crucial collaboration in medicine, research, artificial intelligence (AI) for healthcare, and technology development for the community.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Chanchai Panthongviriyakul said that KKU has had long-term academic collaboration with the Australian institution, with over 80 members of alumni from leading Australian universities. He also emphasized collaboration projects in the medical field, such as KKU International Phenome Center, which collaborates with Murdoch University to facilitate education and new medical training nationally and internationally.
The president further detailed the university's innovative and medical developments in areas like cellular therapy to address challenges in aging society, AI for hospital disease diagnosis, and using Big Data for patient care planning. This includes an ICU project that delivers patient data to doctors within 15 minutes, driven by KKU faculty teachers.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Chanchai Panthongviriyakul also highlighted Srinagarind Hospital's role as a critical medical service center for northeastern Thailand and the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) while discussing plans to strengthen transportation links between Khon Kaen and neighboring countries.
Ms. Esther Sun praised KKU's academic and research excellence, especially its status as a leading medical center in Thailand. She expressed her firm commitment to fostering and nurturing future collaborations between the university and Australia, leaving the audience with a sense of optimism and anticipation.
Following the discussions, Ms. Esther Sun visited KKU's Cellular Therapy Center and Faculty of Medicine to discuss a potential research collaboration with the university leader and teachers.
