On January 9, 2025, Dr. Kate Bärnighausen and her team from the Heidelberg Institute of Global Health (HIGH), affiliated with Heidelberg University, Germany, visited Khon Kaen University (KKU) to discuss academic and research collaborations. The HIGH delegation paid a courtesy visit to Assoc. Prof. Chanchai Panthongviriyakul, M.D., President of KKU. They also held discussions on international relations and joint research with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nawarat Wara-Aswapati, Vice President for International Affairs, and Prof. Pewpan Maleewong, M.D., Vice President for Research. Research project leaders from the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences also joined the meeting to present progress on their current projects and discuss plans for future collaboration.
In addition, this HIGH research team organized a workshop titled “Qualitative Research: PANDA Methods and Analysis” at KKU’s Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences from January 6–10, 2025. The workshop was part of the international research project entitled “Preventing Pandemic Risk by Improving Pandemic Literacy among Communities at the Frontline of Disease Emergence in Southeast Asia (PANDA),” funded by the Volkswagen Foundation, Germany. This project is jointly carried out by the Department of Microbiology, Faculty of Medicine, and the Center for Research on Plurality in the Mekong Region (CERP), Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, KKU.
Notably, KKU administrators had previously visited Heidelberg University in November 2024 to strengthen ties and enhance cooperation between the two institutions.
