On Thursday, May 8, 2025, the International Affairs Division and the Research and Innovation Division of Khon Kaen University jointly organized a proactive event titled “Conquering the Mekong-Lancang Grant 2025.” The event aimed to inspire and prepare KKU faculty members and researchers to apply for grants under the Mekong-Lancang Cooperation (MLC) framework for the year 2025 while also supporting KKU’s strategic direction toward becoming a Global Frontier Research University.
The event was honored by the presence of Asst. Prof. Dr. Acharawan Topark-Ngarm, Assistant to the President for International Affairs, presided over the opening ceremony. The workshop served as a valuable platform for faculty members and researchers to exchange insights and best practices with two distinguished speakers who are past recipients of the MLC grant: Prof. Dr. Metha Wanapat (2022 recipient), Faculty of Agriculture and Prof. Dr. Banchob Sripa (2019 and 2023 recipient), Faculty of Medicine.
The MLC Special Fund is dedicated to improving the quality of life for people in the region and fostering cooperation among the six member countries: China, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam. With a total funding pool of over USD 300 million, the grant supports projects in three major disciplines: health sciences, technology, and social sciences. This year’s priority themes include managing PM2.5 air pollution, efficiently utilizing water resources, and systematically responding to transnational criminal networks.
The workshop was highly successful, drawing strong participation from faculty members across various academic disciplines. Many attendees expressed their intention to submit proposals for the upcoming MLC grant call in June 2025. To further strengthen proposal development, a focused group session will soon be held for potential researchers, featuring personalized coaching and expert guidance from Prof. Dr. Metha Wanapat and Prof. Dr. Banchob Sripa to help shape high-impact and competitive proposal submissions.
