On September 1, 2025 , Khon Kaen University (KKU), led by Assoc. Prof. Nawarat Wara-Aswapati, Vice President for International Affairs, together with the representatives from Social Sciences department, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences: Assoc. Prof. Dr.Sukanya Aimimtham , and Dr. Imron Sohsan , held a formal meeting with a delegation from Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY), Republic of Indonesia, led by Prof. Dr. Achmad Nurmandi, M.Sc., Rector of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY), and Dr. Andi Suryati – Rector, Universitas Lamappapoleonro Soppeng, South Sulawesi.
The objective of the meeting was to explore and expand academic cooperation between the two institutions, with a focus on student and staff exchange programs. This collaboration aims to build a robust and sustainable academic network while enhancing the quality of education and research within the ASEAN region. The meeting was held at the Sarasin 2 Meeting Room, 2nd Floor, Sirikunakorn Building, Khon Kaen University.
In addition, the delegation from Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta also paid a courtesy visit to the administrators and faculty members of several faculties, including the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, the Faculty of Nursing, and the College of Local Administration.
Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta has been ranked among the top 451–500 universities in Asia, according to the QS World University Rankings. Since 2013, the two institutions have maintained active collaboration, particularly in student and staff exchanges, joint research projects, and participation in international academic conferences. Currently, KKU holds academic educational activities with UMY, which are conducted in collaboration with faculties at KKU, including the Faculty of Business Administration and Accountancy, the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, the Faculty of Economics, the Faculty of Nursing, and the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences. At present, over 100 Indonesian students are studying at Khon Kaen University.
