The meeting was held at Pullman Khon Kaen Raja Orchid. The objectives were to build a network platform for administrators and researchers in the 7 Clusters, namely, Food, Energy, Disaster and Climate Change, Health, ASEAN Studies and Materials, Robotic and Digital to present their work progress and outcome, to learn, share, and strengthen the collaborations and drive forward the regional research and education center, which is the collaborative target.

Many must have heard of Thailand 4.0, which is the national policy-based vision that will change the former economy to innovation-driven economy. In order to reach Thailand 4.0, we had to undergo 1.0, 2.0, and 3.0. During the start of Thailand 3.0, the growth was continuous, but it lowered to only 3-4% per year now. Thailand has been in the stage of moderate revenue for over 20 years. Since competition become greater in the world, we need to change to Thailand 4.0, for Thailand to be enlisted among the high-income countries. However, in the present times Thailand is still under the “making a lot but earning a little” economic model. This has to be changed to “making a little but earning a lot”. Production of ‘commodities’ need to be changed to ‘innovations’. These are the background behind the conference, “RUN For Thailand 4.0.”

The Research University Network (RUN) is the collaboration under the memorandum of Understanding among 8 universities: Khon Kaen University, Chulalongkorn University, Kasetsat University, Chiangmai University, Thammasat University, Mahidol University, Prince of Songkhla University, and Naresuan University the new member. The 8 universities agreed to develop bodies of knowledge and innovation for economy, social and competitive competence and lead the country towards being the regional research and education center. The implementation concept is through continuous collaboration to create and develop Thai researchers’ potential.
