On Friday March 29^th, 2019, at 09.30 am., the Division of International Affairs held a scholarship awarding ceremony for the SMBC Bangkok Branch Scholarship, at Kalapapruek 5 Meeting Room, Khon Kaen University. Assoc. Prof. Rosawan Areemit, Assistant to the President for International Affairs, Associate deans, the representatives from Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation and many guests joined the ceremony.

 

The scholarship committee including MrYuichi Nishimura, Country Head of Thailand, and General Manager of Bangkok Branch MrChutchai Pongsuwan, Head of Human Resources Department

Mr. Wanchat Boonchan, HR Operations and Services Unit Head were the honorable guests.

 

Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation signed an agreement with Khon Kaen University in 1996 to provide educational support to students under the SMBC Global Foundation Scholarship Program. The scholarships are offered to undergraduates students of Khon Kaen University who come from low-income families, have good conduct and academic records. These scholarships are granted without any obligations since it is seen that education is an important basis for the development of human resources and the country.

This year, the name of SMBC Global Foundation Scholarship Program has been change to SMBC Bangkok Branch Scholarship Program. The SMBC Bangkok Branch is continue support the scholarship because the bank realized the scholarships were very important for students to further their education and to encourage academic achievement.

SMBC scholarships are awarded to the first to forth-year undergraduate student from Faculty or Department related to Japanese language & culture, Economic, Business Administration, or Commerce and Law who achieve a GPA of at least 3.00 and have been shown to be hard working in their studies. These students should also have potentiality in self development towards becoming leaders in their own fields of studies and in their future work for the development of Thailand. 

In the 2018-2019 academic year, the SMBC Scholarship Awarding Committee is granting 6 scholarships to KKU recipients. Six awarded students receive 40,000 Baht per person per year.

Miss Ratchanegorn Kotiram, the representative of the scholarship awardees, a student in the Faculty of Business Administration and Accountancy said, “I am very honored and happy to have a chance to receive SMBC scholarship.  I promise that I will dedicate ourselves to the study and bring back the knowledge to develop our country and pursue our professions in the future.
