Independence Day is an important public holiday in Indonesia, and is celebrated by Indonesian people in their cities, villages, and also abroad. On Independence Day, Indonesians commemorate the signing and reading of its Declaration of Independence in 1945, freeing it from a long Dutch colonial period. As expected, Indonesian students of KKU show their pride and love for their country by holding an Indonesian culinary competition on 16th August 2020. On every Independence Day, Indonesia’s finest culinary establishments usually go all out. We can say that this is the best time to try different kinds of Indonesian food, in the best possible atmosphere. Indonesian cuisine is a collection of various regional culinary traditions that formed the archipelagic nation of Indonesia. There is a wide variety of recipes and cuisines in part because Indonesia is composed of approximately 6,000 populated islands of the total 17,508 in the world's largest archipelago.
In this competition there were 4 winner groups, and the main menu is chicken or called as ”ayam” in Indonesia . The first winner presented the Balinese chicken or “ayam pelalah”, is a traditional and authentic Balinese dish, an everyday dish as well as a ceremonial staple. It’s basically a shredded chicken. The chicken is first grilled and then tossed with more than 10 aromatic Balinese spices. It’s one of the most scrumptious Balinese recipes and it’s iconic to Bali. Ayam Pelalah is commonly served as a side dish or as a compliment for “nasi campur” Bali or Balinese mixed rice.
In addition, on August 17, 2020, at 1:00 PM, at the Student Club Meeting Room, 4th Floor Bimala Kalakicha Building , Indonesian students have also organized activities to refreshment of this important day. They had a memories talking about the bravery and sacrifice of the unnamed heroes. In this time, the Indonesian in Thailand will also be the representatives of the country to build up good friendship between the two countries toward to the future.
