On August 30, 2020, at the Student Activities Organization Building, Khon Kaen University, Khon Kaen University Student Council (KKUSC) organized an International Party at which over 100 foreign students participated.
Mr. Kan Gunpairin, the Vice President of KKU Student Council said in the beginning, "The Student Council cares for all of our foreign friends at KKU. We would like to know more about the specific issues they face so that our university can provide better solutions for them."
To begin the party, there was an orientation to inform the students about the Student Council, and ice breaking games were played with the aim of allowing the participants to naturally join in the activity and make new friends as well. After that, all the participants changed to a wider room and brainstormed about the issues which foreign students have met in their study life here. The Student Council team randomly divided the participants into six groups and gave them paper to draw the main ideas of the topic they took. Then, the team used a very interesting and quick way to get the atmosphere going - a tiny word solitaire game. The groups unable to complete the word solitaire began their presentation.
In the presentations, the students showed concern about bullying, food, languages, sexual harassment, transportation, and activities. Students shared some solutions, analyzed the trends and provided stories of their experiences.
At the end of the party, the participants were given an opportunity to exchange their contact information. Moreover, everyone in the event was added to a Facebook group, which was specially created for overseas students to ask questions whenever they need help from Thais.
Mr. Kan Gunpairin said, "at this meeting, there were many points that our Student Council had never thought of before, which is very alarming to us. We should pay more attention to the all-round cultivation of students and hope that all foreign friends who come to study in Khon Kaen University can keep in touch and pursue their own goals here."
