» Ph.D. Student, Faculty of Sciences, KKU, discovers a new “Indosialis siamensis” of the world. (2363 Views)

Indosialis siamensis was discovered by Ms. Kanlayakorn Piraorapichart, a Ph.D. student from the Doctor of Philosophy Program in Biology, Khon Kaen University, supervised by Assoc. Prof. Narumon Sangpradub. Indosialis siamensis was found in Huailek water source, Khao Luang Subdistrict, Wang Saphung District, Loei Province. The new “Indosialis siamensis” is the 13th aquatic insect of the world and has a brown color on the head and body while others are orange.

Indosialis siamensis is considered a megaloptera. It is an ancient insect species (Endopterygota) that has a complete metamorphosis and only embryos live in the water. It is a species of predatory aquatic insect. Moreover, it is ranked as a secondary consumer on the food chain and is an important food source of big aquatic animals.
