Khon Kaen University cooperated with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations or (FAO) to make the statement “Guidance on sustainable cricket farming: A practical manual for farmers and inspectors” to set the standard for sustainable farming via a webinar, led by Prof. Yupa Hanboonsong, Head of Entomology and Plant Pathology Department and a consultant for FAO, who lectured about the inadequate guidance on food safety and hygiene from government agencies and the critical need for a guidance tool for best practices for farmers and farm inspectors across the world. Moreover, over 120 agricultural researchers on all continents attended the online meeting on December 17, 2020, at 14.00 hrs.

Khon Kaen University has worked with FAO for a long time. We are a consultant to FAO, especially on the production of edible insects (Six-legged livestock: Edible insect farming, collection and marketing in Thailand). Recently, we cooperated with FAO to launch the manual “Guidance on sustainable cricket farming: A practical manual for farmers and inspectors”  with the target groups of farmers who raise crickets and inspectors of cricket farms. There is a lot of knowledge required in different dimensions for those who will open a farm to raise crickets and to build confidence in consumers about the safety of consuming insects.
