» Khon Kaen University signs a Letter of Intent for Strategic Partnership Collaboration between University of Tsukuba (UT), Japan, and University of Health Science (UHS), Lao PDR (1760 Views)

On December 21, 2020 at 01.30 pm, The administrators of Khon Kaen University (KKU), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Maitree Inprasitha, Vice President for Education and Academic Services, together with Asst. Prof. Dr. Acharawan Topark-Ngarm, Assistant to the President for International Affairs, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Songsak Kiatchoosakun, Director, Srinagarind Hospital, Faculty of Medicine, and the administrators of the Faculty of Medicine attended the online signing ceremony of the Letter of Intent for Strategic Partnership Collaboration between University of Tsukuba (UT), Japan, Khon Kaen University (KKU), Thailand, and University of Health Science (UHS), Lao PDR. This occasion was also a great opportunity for JICA Thailand Office to join the signing ceremony.

This ceremony had the great honor of Professor Nagata Kyosuke, University of Tsukuba (UT), Assoc. Prof. Charnchai Panthongviriyakul, President of Khon Kaen University and Dr. Bountome Xamountry, Interim President of University of Health Science, delivering opening and welcome speeches to the attendees on this auspicious occasion. The objective of this letter is to strengthen strategic collaboration between the universities (UT, KKU and UHS), specializing in emergency care and other related fields of interest, and to support an international cooperation project, which aims to strengthen the capacity building of the staff who have responsibilities in the emergency care system and other related fields in South East Asian countries.

In addition, the ceremony also had a presentation from the special keynote speakers from UT and KKU on the topics of “Challenges on Medical Education under COVID-19 in Japan and Thailand”, “Impact of COVID-19 on EMS System in Japan and Thailand” and “Strengthening Mekong EMS through multi-country collaboration”. According to the presentations, the management system of the Emergency Medical Service was greatly affected during the COVID-19 pandemic, and there are new trends for using innovation and AI for the Emergency Medical Service to make the systems more efficient and consistent with the world situation. 


Many years ago, Khon Kaen University had a policy to drive the medical treatment for sustainable development goals (SDG) with the University of Tsukuba and the University of Health Sciences, and after the signing of the letter of intent, Khon Kaen University will continuously drive the project and activities to develop emergency medical service systems with the 3 partnership universities under the support of JICA Thailand Office.
