» Deputy Head of Mission, British Embassy Bangkok visits KKU to strengthen academic research and innovative collaboration (1851 Views)

On March 12, 2021, at 14.00 hr in the Sirikunakorn meeting room, 6th floor Sirikunakorn Building, Miss Alexandra McKenzie, Deputy Head of Mission, British Embassy Bangkok, along with representatives from the British Embassy in Thailand, met with administrators of Khon Kaen University. The gathering was led by Assoc. Prof. Charnchai Panthongviriyakul, President of Khon Kaen University, Assoc. Prof. Nawarat Wara-Aswapati Charoen, Vice President for International Affairs, Asst. Prof. Acharawan Topark-Ngarm, Assistant to the President for International Affairs, Prof. Pewpan Maleewong, Assistant to the President for Research and Graduate Studies, and together with the deans from many faculties welcomed her delegations.

This was the first visit of the Deputy Head of Mission of the British Embassy Bangkok and her delegates. They visited the Research Laboratory for Tropical Diseases, the Pathology Department, the Faculty of Medicine which is a nationally and internationally renowned research center on Cholangiocarcinoma. The delegation also visited the researchers who received the Newton Fund scholarship in order to monitor the project. Moreover, there was a discussion about collaboration on academic and research innovation as a world-leading research university, and about other collaborations in the future.

Prof. Charnchai Panthongviriyakul, President of Khon Kaen University said “On behalf of the Khon Kaen University, it is my great honor and pleasure to express a very warm and cordial welcome to the honorary Deputy Ambassador at the British Embassy Bangkok, Miss Alexandra McKenzie and all delegates on your visit to Khon Kaen University today. Khon Kaen University has a good and long lasting relationship with the British Embassy Bangkok. Importantly, there are many academic collaborations with UK universities such as the University of London, University of Liverpool, Imperial College of Science Technology and Medicine, and University College London. We are very grateful that the British Embassy Bangkok has continuously supported KKU in various cooperation initiatives, including exchange of staff and students, research and various academic seminars. Especially, the research on Cholangiocarcinoma has led to world-renowned publications. In addition, KKU and the British Council Thailand have been working together closely in organizing the FameLab competition, one of the biggest sciences and communication competitions in the world. KKU has sent staff and students to participate actively in the FameLab competition every year. One KKU student won the Thailand championship in Thailand in 2017 and our lecturer from the Faculty of Science also won the national championship in 2020.  Finally, We strongly hope that the meeting and discussions today will help you to gain more insight in our strategic policies for being “World leading Research and Development University and that it will further strengthen the relationships, trust and friendship between the British Embassy Bangkok and KKU”
