On April 11, 2017, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kittichai Trairatanasirichai, Khon Kaen University President led a group of delegation from Khon Kaen University to present an Honorary Doctorate Degree in International Affairs to Dr. Thongloun Sisoulith, Prime Minister of Laos PDR at the Office of the Prime Minister, Vientiane.
Khon Kaen University Council unanimously agreed on September 17, 2016 to confer an Honorary Doctorate Degree in International Affairs upon Dr. Thongloun Sisoulith, Prime Minister of the People’s Democratic Republic of Laos.An honorary degree of Khon Kaen University is the degree that the University will present to eminent persons who have knowledge, competence, and succeed excellently in their relevant professions. The individuals who receive the honorary degree have performed outstanding tasks until being recognized for the world and become models for others and are acknowledged for their dedication to the society in the field related to the degree. Dr. Thongloun Sisoulith henceforth has the pride and rights of the honorary degree bestowed upon him.
Dr. Thongloun Sisoulith is a key person who contributes to the promotion of relationships and collaborations at many levels between People’s Democratic Republic of Laos and Thailand. He played a major role in the coordination part when Mr. Jummalee Chaiyason, President of Laos PDR was granted the most exalted order of the white elephant from His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej on March 19, 2010 at the Royal Embassy in Vientiane. He also made a visit and was a royal guest of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej from April 12 - 14, 2009, owing to his being the President of the Laos PDR-Thai collaboration and promoting of economic relations at the border of Lao PDR and Thailand. Moreover, Dr. Thongloun Sisoulith also supported the construction of communication networks that connect Laos PDR and Thailand such as the Third Friendship Bridge (Kham Muan of Laos PDR and Nakhopanom), Laos PDR-Thailand railway connecting Vietnam and Bangkok. This will be the first railway line in Laos PDR that links two capitals. Moreover, Dr. Thongloun Sisoulith supports collaboration under Mekong Sub-region of ASEAN and the strategic cooperation for strengthening the economy in the sub-regions along the rivers Ayeyawady – Chao Phraya – Mekong.
